Guests at Vivian’s Angels of Influence Luncheon

The Power of Women

After joining Erin Brockovich and Barbara Walters at the Power of Women event in Calgary this September, Lorris Herenda and Vivian Risi brought the forum’s message back to York Region during a meeting of the Yellow Brick House Capital Campaign, Second Shelter, Second Chances. The campaign’s first Angels of Influence luncheon addressed the need for community leadership and encouraged people to take a stand and empower women to lead violence free lives.

Hosted by Vivian Risi, Royal LePage Broker of Record and Campaign Chair, the meeting allowed Angels to outline priorities, set goals, celebrate community volunteerism, and announce the need for a second Yellow Brick House emergency shelter.

Yellow Brick House provided shelter and support to over 4000 women and children last year, and still 547 women and children were turned away due to lack of space. The Yellow Brick House Capital Campaign, Second Shelter, Second Chances, will raise four million dollars to build a second emergency shelter for York Region women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
