Richmond Hill Curling Club 50th Anniversary
The Richmond Hill Curling Club celebrated its 50th anniversary on January 23rd. Approximately 100 current and previous members dropped in to curl from 9:30 until 4:00, and then tear it up at a dance, which started at 6:30. If 18 hours of festivities weren't enough for some of the club's more energetic members, there was also a brunch at 11:30 on Sunday.
The club has been officially open since January 25, 1960, after ten members of the community, lamenting the absence of curling facilities in town, discovered that there had been a Richmond Hill curling club before the turn of the century with a charter founded in 1889. Organizers took over the 19th century charter, and today's club crest still shows the 1889 design.
